Job Summary:

The Companion is a paraprofessional, providing visitation, support and companionship in the home for clients under the direct supervision of a qualified supervisor. Companion services include support, encouragement, companionship, respite breaks for family or caregivers, and provision of and instruction in reporting of signs, symptoms, and/or changes in the client’s condition.

Qualifications:

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • At least one (1) year of working as a companion or life experience working
  • Use of an automobile with possession of liability insurance is desirable
  • Requires the ability to read and write and follow directions
  • Completion of training or passing competency assessment, as appropriate, for understanding needs of populations served, basic meal prep, provision of transportation services, housekeeping, home safety, handling emergencies in the home, and infection control
  • Must have a criminal background check and current CPR certification
  • Never have shown by credible evidence, to have abused, neglected, sexually assaulted, exploited or deprived any person or to have subjected any person to serious injury as a result of intentional or grossly negligent misconduct
  • Have not made any material false statements concerning qualifications requirements either to the Department or the provider

Job Summary:

An individual who, under professional supervision, provides assistance with nutritional and environmental support, personal hygiene, feeding and dressing to clients in their residence.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a nurse aide training and competency evaluation program pursuant to the requirements of 42 CFR Part 483, Subpart D as revised or recoded, if applicable; or
  • Successful completion of a competency examination for nurse aides recognized by the department; or
  • Successful completion of a health care or personal care credentialing program recognized and approved by the department; or
  • Successful completion or progress in the completion of a 40 hour training program provided by a private home care provider, which addresses at least the following areas:
    1. Ambulation and transfer of clients, including positioning
    2. Assistance with bathing, toileting, grooming, shaving, dental care, dressing, and eating
    3. Basic first aid and CPR
    4. Caring for clients with special conditions and needs so long as the services are within the scope of the tasks authorized to be performed demonstration
    5. Home management
    6. Home safety and sanitation
    7. Infection control in the home
    8. Related activities to include the taking of vital signs
    9. Proper nutrition
  • Speaks, reads, and writes and able to communicate effectively in English
  • Must have current CPR certification and criminal background check
